Among the many impressive features of the Will Rogers World Airport’s $89 million terminal expansion project is the inclusion of two major works of public art – terrazzo flooring in the lobby and concourse areas and a glass wall in the public observation lounge.

The Oklahoma City Airport Trust commissioned an artist to design and oversee the installation of these two architecturally integrated works.  Thirty-five entries from national and international artists were received from which five finalists were selected to present designs.  Oklahoma City native Matt Goad was ultimately selected.  Goad’s winning design, entitled “OKConnected”, tells the story of OKC’s unique beginnings then bridges to the present celebrating the City’s colorful cultures and industries.

“I’m extremely honored to be selected for this important project which will represent the city I love and call home,” says Matt Goad.  “Oklahoma City and its heritage offers an amazing “whirlwind” of stories.  I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring those stories to visitors of the airport.”

Over the next year, Matt will be working with several groups to bring the art to fruition.  It is anticipated to be revealed to the public in the first quarter of 2021.
