WRWA Winter Storm Update

January 14, 2017

Sunday, January 15, 2017 - WRWA Operations and Maintenance staff were prepared for the possibility of more freezing precipitation from Saturday night, into Sunday morning. Runway surface temperatures stayed above freezing, leaving manageably wet landing surfaces. 

Airlines operating at WRWA reported the following:

Alaska, American, Delta & Southwest: Most schedules were back to normal but the airlines reported seeing some minor delays due to airline deicing operations and some impact due to weather at DFW, DAL and ORD. 

United: 2 Saturday afternoon arrivals were preemptively canceled, which caused 2 Sunday morning departure cancellations.  

Saturday, January 14, 2017 - WRWA was under an Ice Storm Warning throughout the night. Due to the number of arrivals canceled yesterday, departures were expected to see delays this morning.  

Here is a quick update from the airlines operating at WRWA:

Alaska: No delays or cancellations currently.

American: 1 departure canceled, first flight departure was at 7:00 A.M. 

Delta: No cancellations, but schedule will be delayed throughout the day. First departure was changed to 7:00 A.M.

Southwest: 3 departures canceled this morning, first departure was at 7:10 A.M.

United: 3 departures canceled this morning, first departure was at 7:52 A.M. 2 Saturday afternoon arrivals canceled due to overnight freezing concerns.

Runway and Roadway conditions:

Operations staff has reported that Field Maintenance crews are treating runways with success. Operations also reports that roadways to the WRWA Terminal and Car Rental Center are in good shape. Drivers should continue to add some additional travel time as they make their way to the airport. Caution is advised on bridges and overpasses.  

Friday, January 13, 2017 - Will Rogers World Airport saw a few delays to early morning flights. Delays increased in the evening hours as airlines prepared for overnight and Saturday morning conditions. 

Surface temperatures stayed favorable, above freezing for taxiways and runways.

Southwest Airlines canceled 5 mid-day/evening flights.
